What Ally Bank exports natively, and where it stops

Ally is online-only, so everything is digital from the start. Its export is genuinely decent. The gaps are QuickBooks and history. Here is what each option covers:

FormatWhereHistoryThe catch
CSV (transaction history)Account page, download icon above Transactions HistoryUp to 18 monthsA live activity feed rather than the statement. Amounts can come through as currency-formatted text, which some importers reject until you strip the dollar signs.
QFX (Quicken)Same download iconUp to 18 monthsQuicken only. There is no QBO option, so QuickBooks users have to convert.
PDF statementsStatements & Tax FormsUp to 7 years, even after you close the accountsInterest-bearing accounts get one combined monthly statement covering every account, including CDs. Complete, but a PDF.

Ally Bank export behavior as of September 2026.

For the last year and a half, use Ally’s own download. For the years before that, or for a QBO file, you are working from the PDFs. CapyParse reads a combined Ally statement and gives you one clean table per account, with a plain numeric amount column that any importer accepts.

From Ally Bank PDF to spreadsheet in two short steps

Get your statement PDFs from ally.com

  1. 1Sign in at ally.com and open Statements & Tax Forms from the account menu.
  2. 2Pick the statement month. Ally issues one combined statement for your interest-bearing accounts, so one PDF may cover savings, checking, and CDs.
  3. 3Download each month you need. Ally keeps 7 years, so a multi-year batch works fine.

Convert with CapyParse

  1. 1Upload the PDFs, digital or scanned, one statement or a whole year in a batch.
  2. 2Review every extracted transaction next to the original page, with anything unusual flagged for a quick check.
  3. 3Export CSV, Excel, or QBO. Multi-account statements come out as one clean file per account.

Built for the way Ally Bank prints statements

Ally statements are clean and consistent, which makes them easy to read and easy to get subtly wrong. CapyParse handles the details:

Several accounts in one statement

A single Ally statement can list a Spending Account, an Online Savings account, and two CDs in sequence. Each becomes its own table with its own running balance, rather than one long list where balances jump around.

Debits and credits in separate columns

Ally prints withdrawals and deposits as separate columns with a running balance. The export keeps both columns and adds a signed amount, so QuickBooks and Excel each get what they prefer.

Interest is a row you can filter

Monthly interest credits on savings, money market, and CD accounts come through as their own dated rows. Twelve statements, one filter, and you have the 1099-INT total.

Buckets are not transactions

Ally’s savings buckets are a view on top of one balance. They do not appear on the statement and do not appear in your export. What you get is what actually posted.

About the Ally statement cycle

A common question is when Ally statements are generated and why one PDF has several accounts on it. Ally issues statements on a monthly cycle. Checking, money market, and savings accounts each cycle monthly, and if you hold interest-bearing accounts you receive one combined statement that covers all of them, CDs included.

That design is convenient for reading and inconvenient for importing. Most tools want one account per file. Converting the PDF fixes that: the Excel export puts each account on its own sheet, and the CSV and QBO exports produce one file per account, each with the right opening and closing balance.

Three formats out, ready for your tools

CSV

Opens directly in Excel and Google Sheets with dates, descriptions, and amounts in separate columns. The universal import format for every accounting tool.

Excel (XLSX)

Native spreadsheet formatting, one sheet per account on combined statements, ready for pivot tables and formulas.

QBO for QuickBooks

A Web Connect file with the financial institution details QuickBooks verifies, so imports work on the first try instead of failing with a bank error.

Review everything before you export

Every extracted transaction appears next to the original statement page, with anything unusual flagged for a second look. Nothing leaves for your books until you have seen it.

Ally Bank conversion questions

How do I download Ally Bank transactions as a CSV?

Sign in at ally.com, open the account, and scroll to Transactions History. The download icon there offers CSV or QFX for up to 18 months of activity. For anything older, or for a QBO file, download the PDF statements from Statements & Tax Forms and convert them with CapyParse.

Does Ally offer a QBO file for QuickBooks?

No. Ally’s download offers CSV and QFX (Quicken) only. To get a QBO file, convert the PDF statement with CapyParse and export as QBO, then upload it in QuickBooks under Banking, then Upload transactions. The file carries the institution details QuickBooks checks on import.

How far back can I get Ally Bank statements?

Ally keeps statements and tax forms online for 7 years, and that access continues for 7 years after you close all your accounts. The transaction download only reaches 18 months. For older years, download the PDFs and upload them to CapyParse in one batch.

When does Ally generate statements?

Monthly. Checking, money market, and savings accounts each have a monthly statement cycle, and interest-bearing accounts receive one combined statement covering every account, including CDs. CapyParse splits a combined statement into one table per account on export.

Does this work with Ally savings, money market, and CD statements?

Yes. Online Savings, Money Market, Spending Account, and CD statements all convert, with the separate debit and credit columns, running balance, and interest credits preserved. Zelle payments and ACH transfers on the Spending Account come through with their full descriptions.

Is it safe to upload my Ally statement?

All uploads are encrypted in transit via HTTPS. Your documents are stored securely, only you can access your data, and you can delete any document from your dashboard at any time.
