What Scotiabank exports natively, and where it stops
Scotiabank’s download reaches further back than most and comes in fewer formats. Here is what its help centre documents:
| Format | Where | History | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| QBO / QFX (personal accounts) | Account screen, download icon | One statement period at a time. History shows back to January 1, 2018 | QuickBooks and Quicken formats only. Scotiabank documents no CSV or Excel download for personal accounts, and its own steps say to load every transaction in the period before you download. |
| CSV, Excel, TXT (ScotiaConnect) | Balance and transaction reporting | Not published | Business platform only. BAI2, QBO, QFX, and Simply Accounting are advanced exports that have to be granted to your user group. |
| PDF eStatements | Statements on the account, or Documents | Up to 7 years, 2 years on ScotiaConnect | Credit card eStatements count from when you switched to paperless. ScotiaConnect statements older than 2 years mean a branch visit. |
Scotiabank export behavior as of October 2026.
If QuickBooks is the destination and the period is still online, the native download works. If you want a spreadsheet, or the statement as the bank printed it, you are working from the PDFs. CapyParse converts them to CSV, Excel, or QBO with one row per transaction.
From Scotiabank PDF to spreadsheet in two short steps
Get your eStatement PDFs from Scotia online banking
- 1Sign in to Scotia online banking and open the account. Statements are also under Documents in the profile menu.
- 2Choose the year from the drop-down. Download all as PDF fetches every statement for the current year at once, and earlier years go back up to 7 years.
- 3Save the PDFs and upload them here together. Each month is read on its own and the exports line up as one table.
Convert with CapyParse
- 1Upload the PDFs, digital or scanned, one statement or a whole year in a batch.
- 2Review every extracted transaction next to the original page, with anything unusual flagged for a quick check.
- 3Export CSV, Excel, or QBO. Multi-account statements come out as one clean file per account.
Built for the way Scotiabank prints statements
Scotiabank prints chequing, credit card, and business statements in different layouts. CapyParse reads each one as printed:
Scene+ points are not money
Scene+ card statements can show points earned for the period. Those lines are read as context and never land in your amount column.
Card dates without a year
A card statement covers one billing cycle, and the rows often skip the year. The year comes from the statement period, so a December charge never lands in the wrong tax year.
Withdrawals and deposits in two columns
Chequing and savings statements split money out and money in, with a running balance. The export keeps both columns and adds a signed amount, so QuickBooks and Excel each get what they prefer.
Long descriptions stay whole
Interac e-Transfer, bill payment, and pre-authorised debit entries often wrap across lines. Each stays one transaction with its full description, and cheque numbers stay with their rows.
The Scotiabank download, format by format
Scotiabank’s help centre says transaction history is available back to January 1, 2018, and the download in the new online banking experience works on whichever statement period you choose. That is a long reach for a native export.
The limit is format. The documented options are QuickBooks (QBO) and Quicken (QFX), one statement period per file. There is no documented CSV or Excel download for personal accounts, so a year in a spreadsheet means twelve QuickBooks files and a second conversion. If you already have those files, the free QBO to CSV converter flattens them. If you have the statements, convert those directly.
Business clients on ScotiaConnect do get CSV and Excel exports, but ScotiaConnect keeps statements online for 2 years. For anything older, the PDFs you saved are the record, and converting them is the way back into a spreadsheet.
Three formats out, ready for your tools
CSV
Opens directly in Excel and Google Sheets with dates, descriptions, and amounts in separate columns. The universal import format for every accounting tool.
Excel (XLSX)
Native spreadsheet formatting, one sheet per account on combined statements, ready for pivot tables and formulas.
QBO for QuickBooks
A Web Connect file with the financial institution details QuickBooks verifies, so imports work on the first try instead of failing with a bank error.
Review everything before you export
Every extracted transaction appears next to the original statement page, with anything unusual flagged for a second look. Nothing leaves for your books until you have seen it.

Scotiabank conversion questions
Can I download Scotiabank transactions as a CSV?
Scotiabank documents downloads in QuickBooks (QBO) and Quicken (QFX) format for personal accounts, one statement period at a time, and does not document a CSV or Excel option. To get a spreadsheet, convert the PDF statement with CapyParse and export CSV or Excel. ScotiaConnect business users can export CSV and Excel directly.
How do I download Scotiabank transactions to QuickBooks?
Select the account, choose the statement period from the drop-down, and scroll to the bottom, selecting Load more until the whole period is showing. Then select the download icon, choose Download as QuickBooks, and save the file. For periods that are no longer online, convert the PDF statements with CapyParse and export QBO.
How far back can I get Scotiabank statements?
Up to 7 years of eStatements for personal bank accounts, credit cards, and business accounts. Credit card eStatements count from when you switched to paperless. ScotiaConnect keeps statements online for 2 years, and older ones need a branch visit. Transaction history in online banking goes back to January 1, 2018.
Does this work with Scene+ Visa and other Scotiabank cards?
Yes. Scene+ Visa, Scotiabank Gold American Express, Passport Visa Infinite, and other Scotiabank card statements convert with purchases, payments, interest, and fees in the right direction. Points lines stay out of your money columns, and foreign currency purchases keep their CAD amount.
Can I convert ScotiaConnect business statements?
Yes. Business statements convert with cheque numbers, EFT descriptions, and the separate debit and credit columns preserved. That helps when a statement is older than what ScotiaConnect keeps online, or when you only have the PDFs a client sent you.
Is it safe to upload my Scotiabank statement?
All uploads are encrypted in transit via HTTPS. When you sign up, your documents are stored securely in your account, only you can access them, and you can delete any document from your dashboard at any time.
