Convert Discover Statements to CSV, Excel & QBO
Discover will give you a CSV of recent activity and nothing else. No Quicken file, no QuickBooks file, and no way to export an older billing cycle. The PDF statements go back years. Drop one below and get the transactions out.

What Discover exports natively, and where it stops
Discover used to be one of the friendlier issuers for exports. It quietly retired the Quicken and QuickBooks downloads, and what is left is a plain CSV of recent activity. Here is the current picture:
| Format | Where | History | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| CSV / Excel (activity) | Activity page on the desktop site, download link above the transaction list | Recent activity for a date range you pick | This is the live activity feed, not your statement. Older billing cycles drop out of the range picker, and the mobile app has no export at all. |
| QFX / QBO | Nowhere | Discontinued | Discover ended its Quicken and QuickBooks file downloads. Anyone still following an old QuickBooks guide will not find the option. |
| PDF statements | Statements tab on each account | Up to 7 years with paperless enrollment, about 24 months without | The only record of interest, fees, and Cashback Bonus activity per cycle, and the only thing that covers real history. |
Discover export behavior as of September 2026.
The short version: Discover gives you a spreadsheet of what happened lately and a PDF of everything else. If you need a full year of a Discover it card for taxes, or three years of a Cashback Debit account for a mortgage file, you are working from PDFs. That is the job this page does.
From Discover PDF to spreadsheet in two short steps
Get your statement PDFs from discover.com
- 1Sign in at discover.com on a desktop browser and open the card or bank account.
- 2Choose Statements, not Activity. With paperless statements on, the archive reaches back up to 7 years.
- 3Download each billing cycle you need as a PDF. A full year is twelve files. Upload them here together.
Convert with CapyParse
- 1Upload the PDFs, digital or scanned, one statement or a whole year in a batch.
- 2Review every extracted transaction next to the original page, with anything unusual flagged for a quick check.
- 3Export CSV, Excel, or QBO. Multi-account statements come out as one clean file per account.
Built for the way Discover prints statements
A Discover card statement and a Discover Bank statement look nothing alike. CapyParse reads each one the way it is printed:
Card dates have no year
Discover it statements print transaction and post dates as MM/DD because each one covers a single cycle. The year comes from the statement header, so a December purchase that posts in January lands in the right year.
Sections stay sorted
Purchases, Payments and Credits, Fees, and Interest Charged are separate sections on the PDF. Each row keeps its type and direction, so a return never imports as a purchase.
Cashback Bonus stays out of the ledger
The rewards summary, the first-year Cashback Match, and the 5% category notes are not transactions. They stay out of your export instead of becoming stray rows with dollar amounts.
Cashback Debit and savings
Discover Bank statements use full dates, separate debit and credit columns, and a running balance. Checking, Online Savings, Money Market, and CD statements all convert with the balance column intact.
Discover, QuickBooks, and the download that went away
For years the standard advice was "download the QBO file from Discover and upload it to QuickBooks." That advice is dead. Discover removed the Quicken and QuickBooks formats from its download dialog, and the QuickBooks community threads asking where the option went have no good answer beyond "use a converter."
Discover is now part of Capital One, which closed the acquisition in May 2025. As of this writing your Discover statements still come from discover.com in the same layouts, and nothing about the export options has improved. If that changes, this page will too.
The practical path is the one above: download the PDF for each cycle, convert it, and export QBO. CapyParse writes the financial institution details QuickBooks checks on import, so the file goes in without the "unable to verify" error that hand-built files trigger.
Three formats out, ready for your tools
CSV
Opens directly in Excel and Google Sheets with dates, descriptions, and amounts in separate columns. The universal import format for every accounting tool.
Excel (XLSX)
Native spreadsheet formatting, one sheet per account on combined statements, ready for pivot tables and formulas.
QBO for QuickBooks
A Web Connect file with the financial institution details QuickBooks verifies, so imports work on the first try instead of failing with a bank error.
Review everything before you export
Every extracted transaction appears next to the original statement page, with anything unusual flagged for a second look. Nothing leaves for your books until you have seen it.

Discover conversion questions
How do I download Discover transactions as a CSV?
Sign in at discover.com on a desktop browser, open the account, and use the download link above the Activity list. Pick a date range and choose CSV or Excel. The export only covers activity Discover still shows online, and it is not available in the mobile app. For older cycles, download the PDF statements and convert them with CapyParse.
What columns does the Discover CSV export include?
As of September 2026 the Discover card CSV has five columns: Trans. Date, Post Date, Description, Amount, and Category. Amount is a single signed column. A CapyParse export mirrors the statement instead, so you also get statement sections, fees, and interest, and on bank accounts a running balance.
Can I still download a QBO or QFX file from Discover?
No. Discover discontinued its Quicken (QFX) and QuickBooks (QBO) downloads. The only native export left is CSV or Excel from the Activity page. To get a QBO file, convert the PDF statement with CapyParse and export as QBO, then upload it in QuickBooks under Banking, then Upload transactions.
How far back do Discover statements go?
With paperless statements enabled, Discover keeps up to 7 years of PDF statements online. Without paperless, the archive is typically around 24 months. If you might need history later, turn paperless on now. Either way, PDFs are the only format that reaches back past recent activity.
Does this work with Discover Bank checking and savings statements?
Yes. Cashback Debit checking, Online Savings, Money Market, and CD statements convert with their full dates, separate debit and credit columns, and running balances preserved. Interest credits come through as their own rows, which makes 1099-INT reconciliation a filter instead of a hunt.
Is it safe to upload my Discover statement?
All uploads are encrypted in transit via HTTPS. Your documents are stored securely, only you can access your data, and you can delete any document from your dashboard at any time.
