Convert RBC Statements to CSV, Excel & QBO

RBC Online Banking will download your chequing history without much fuss. Credit cards are a different story: the download reaches back a few months and then stops. The eStatements go back 7 years. Drop one below and get every transaction out.

What RBC exports natively, and where it stops

RBC does offer a real download, and for day-to-day chequing reconciliation it is fine. The trouble starts with credit cards and with anything more than a few months old. Here is what each option covers:

FormatWhereHistoryThe catch
CSV / QFX / QBO (chequing & savings)Account details page, Download above the transaction listLonger than cards, but recent activity onlyA live activity feed, not the statement. Fine for recent months. Older statement periods are not selectable.
CSV / QFX / QBO (credit cards)Same Download control on the card accountAbout the last 3 monthsThe window Canadian forums complain about most. No running balance in the file either, so partial payments and interest are hard to reconcile.
PDF eStatementsView eStatements on the accountUp to 7 yearsThe only format that covers a full tax year on a card, and the only official record for CRA purposes.

RBC export behavior as of September 2026.

A year-end reconciliation of an RBC Avion card, or a CRA review of a business Visa, cannot be done from the download alone. It can be done from twelve eStatement PDFs. That is what CapyParse converts, with the dates and the section types intact.

From RBC PDF to spreadsheet in two short steps

Get your eStatement PDFs from RBC Online Banking

  1. 1Sign in to RBC Online Banking, or RBC Express for business accounts, and open the account.
  2. 2Choose View eStatements, not Download. eStatements are kept for up to 7 years.
  3. 3Pick a statement period and save the PDF. Repeat for each month, then upload the batch here.

Convert with CapyParse

  1. 1Upload the PDFs, digital or scanned, one statement or a whole year in a batch.
  2. 2Review every extracted transaction next to the original page, with anything unusual flagged for a quick check.
  3. 3Export CSV, Excel, or QBO. Multi-account statements come out as one clean file per account.

Built for the way RBC prints statements

RBC prints chequing, credit card, and business statements in three distinct layouts. CapyParse reads each one as printed:

Card dates without a year

RBC credit card statements print dates as MMM DD, like APR 12, because each covers one cycle. The year is taken from the statement header, so a batch spanning December and January lands in the right tax year.

Withdrawals and deposits in two columns

Personal chequing and business statements split debits and credits into separate columns with a running balance. The export keeps both columns and adds a signed amount, so QuickBooks and Excel each get what they prefer.

Foreign currency on card statements

A US-dollar purchase on an Avion or WestJet card shows the original amount, the exchange rate, and the CAD total. Those stay attached to one transaction instead of becoming three rows.

Cheques and EFT descriptions

Business Essentials and Business Choice statements carry cheque numbers and long electronic transfer narratives. They are preserved in full, which is what your bookkeeper needs for matching in QuickBooks Online, Xero, or Sage.

The RBC credit card download problem, explained

Search for anything about RBC credit card exports and you find the same complaint in different words: "download all transactions not working for credit card," "how to export RBC credit card data to Excel," "how to get old credit card statements." These are all the same problem. The card download is scoped to recent activity, and the picker will not let you go further back.

RBC Express, the business banking platform, does not change this. Business Visa history past the window still lives only in monthly eStatements. There is nothing to configure and nobody at a branch can extend it.

The eStatement archive is the way around it, and it is a good one: 7 years, official, and complete with interest and fees. Download the months you need, convert them here, and export to CSV for Excel, or QBO for QuickBooks. For HST and GST work, the full merchant descriptions survive, so category rules in a spreadsheet still apply.

Three formats out, ready for your tools

CSV

Opens directly in Excel and Google Sheets with dates, descriptions, and amounts in separate columns. The universal import format for every accounting tool.

Excel (XLSX)

Native spreadsheet formatting, one sheet per account on combined statements, ready for pivot tables and formulas.

QBO for QuickBooks

A Web Connect file with the financial institution details QuickBooks verifies, so imports work on the first try instead of failing with a bank error.

Review everything before you export

Every extracted transaction appears next to the original statement page, with anything unusual flagged for a second look. Nothing leaves for your books until you have seen it.

RBC conversion questions

How do I export RBC credit card transactions to Excel?

In RBC Online Banking, open the card account and use the Download control above the transaction list. Choose CSV and open it in Excel. The download reaches back only about 3 months on credit cards, and it has no running balance. For a full year, download the monthly eStatement PDFs instead and convert them with CapyParse, which exports CSV and Excel.

How far back can I get RBC statements?

RBC keeps up to 7 years of PDF eStatements online for most personal and business accounts. The transaction download covers far less, especially for credit cards. Open View eStatements on the account, save the months you need, and upload them to CapyParse in one batch.

Does this work with RBC Avion, Cash Back, ION, and WestJet card statements?

Yes. RBC personal and business Visa and Mastercard statements share one layout, with transactions grouped into purchases, payments, credits, cash advances, interest, and fees. Each row keeps its type and direction, and foreign currency lines keep their exchange rate and CAD amount.

Can I convert RBC business banking statements?

Yes. RBC Business Essentials, Business Choice, and Business Visa statements convert with cheque numbers, EFT descriptions, and the separate debit and credit columns preserved. Statements that combine an operating and a payroll account come out as one clean file per account.

Can I import RBC statements into QuickBooks?

Yes. Export as QBO and upload it in QuickBooks Online under Banking, then Upload transactions, or in QuickBooks Desktop through Web Connect import. CapyParse fills in the financial institution details QuickBooks checks, so the file imports without the "unable to verify financial institution" error.

Is it safe to upload my RBC statement?

All uploads are encrypted in transit via HTTPS. Your documents are stored securely, only you can access your data, and you can delete any document from your dashboard at any time.
