Convert CIBC Statements to CSV, Excel & QBO
CIBC Online Banking has a Download Transactions screen, and CIBC does not say which formats it offers or how far back it reaches. The eStatements are documented: 7 years, as PDFs. Drop one below and get every transaction out.

What CIBC exports natively, and where it stops
CIBC’s help pages are precise about statements and vague about downloads. Here is what is documented, and what is only reported by users:
| Format | Where | History | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Download Transactions (personal accounts) | Online Banking home, More, Download Transactions, then pick the account and a time period | Not published | CIBC’s page says to choose your financial software from a drop-down and nothing more. Users report CSV and Quicken QFX, reaching back roughly 13 months, or to your Online Banking registration date if that is later. Treat those as reports, not promises. |
| SmartBanking for Business feed | QuickBooks Online or Xero bank feed | Up to 13 months of past transactions | Intuit’s own help says credit card transactions are not available through the CIBC feed. Business Visa cardholders get CSV and Excel exports of up to 27 months through Visa Spend Clarity instead. |
| PDF eStatements | My Documents, Account Documents, Account statements. In the app, More, My documents | Up to 7 years | Chequing, savings, credit cards, personal lines of credit, and investment accounts. Nothing before the date you enrolled in eStatements, and mortgages still come by mail. |
CIBC export behavior as of October 2026.
Whatever the download screen gives you, it is a live activity feed with no opening or closing balance and about a year of reach. For a tax year, a CRA review, or a client’s back books, the statements are the record. CapyParse converts them to CSV, Excel, or QBO with one row per transaction.
From CIBC PDF to spreadsheet in two short steps
Get your eStatement PDFs from CIBC Online Banking
- 1Sign in to CIBC Online Banking and open My Documents, then Account Documents, then Account statements. In the CIBC app it is More, My documents, Account statements. If you still get paper, switch the account to Digital under Document Delivery Preferences first.
- 2Pick the account and the statement date. Each one downloads as a PDF. Save the months you need. Business clients use View eStatements, which also keeps 7 years.
- 3Upload the batch here. Each month is read on its own and the exports line up as one table in statement order.
Convert with CapyParse
- 1Upload the PDFs, digital or scanned, one statement or a whole year in a batch.
- 2Review every extracted transaction next to the original page, with anything unusual flagged for a quick check.
- 3Export CSV, Excel, or QBO. Multi-account statements come out as one clean file per account.
Built for the way CIBC prints statements
CIBC prints chequing, credit card, and business statements in different layouts. CapyParse reads each one as printed:
Withdrawals and deposits in two columns
Chequing and savings statements split money out and money in with a running balance. The export keeps both columns and adds a signed amount, so QuickBooks and Excel each get what they prefer.
Card dates without a year
A CIBC Mastercard or Visa statement covers one billing cycle and prints transaction and posting dates without a year. The year comes from the statement period, so a December charge never lands in the wrong tax year.
Foreign currency on card statements
A US-dollar purchase on an Aventura or Costco Mastercard shows the original amount, the exchange rate, and the CAD total. Those stay attached to one transaction instead of becoming three rows.
Long descriptions stay whole
Interac e-Transfer, bill payment, and pre-authorized debit entries often wrap across lines. Each stays one transaction with its full description, and cheque numbers stay with their rows.
What CIBC documents, and what it does not
Ask how to get a CSV of a CIBC chequing account and the honest first-party answer is short: go to More, choose Download Transactions, pick the account and a period, and choose your software from the list. CIBC’s own page stops there. Every format list you will find online, including CSV and Quicken, comes from users and converter vendors, and so does the 13-month limit.
That matters because the download is a live feed. It has no opening balance, no closing balance, and it does not go back to the start of a tax year once you are past the window. The Quicken forums add a second problem: CIBC’s site changes have broken the Quicken connection more than once, most recently in late 2025 and again this autumn, and the fallback is the same manual download.
The statements are the part CIBC is clear about. Seven years of eStatements for personal accounts and cards, 7 years for business accounts, viewable in Online Banking and the app, downloadable as PDF. Save the months you need, convert them here, and export CSV for Excel or QBO for QuickBooks with the full descriptions intact.
Three formats out, ready for your tools
CSV
Opens directly in Excel and Google Sheets with dates, descriptions, and amounts in separate columns. The universal import format for every accounting tool.
Excel (XLSX)
Native spreadsheet formatting, one sheet per account on combined statements, ready for pivot tables and formulas.
QBO for QuickBooks
A Web Connect file with the financial institution details QuickBooks verifies, so imports work on the first try instead of failing with a bank error.
Review everything before you export
Every extracted transaction appears next to the original statement page, with anything unusual flagged for a second look. Nothing leaves for your books until you have seen it.

CIBC conversion questions
How do I get a CSV of my CIBC chequing account?
In CIBC Online Banking, choose More, then Download Transactions, pick the account and a time period, and choose your software from the drop-down. CIBC does not publish which formats appear. Users report CSV and Quicken QFX with about 13 months of history. For a complete year, download the monthly eStatement PDFs and convert them with CapyParse, which exports CSV and Excel.
How far back can I get CIBC statements?
Up to 7 years of eStatements for personal bank accounts and credit cards, and up to 7 years for business accounts. Statements from before the date you enrolled in eStatements are not available online. Save the PDFs you need from My Documents and upload them to CapyParse in one batch.
Does this work with CIBC Dividend, Aventura, and Costco Mastercard statements?
Yes. CIBC Visa and Mastercard statements convert with purchases, payments, credits, interest, and fees kept as separate types, and foreign currency lines keep their exchange rate and CAD amount. Supplementary cardholder sections stay with the cardholder.
Can I convert CIBC business statements?
Yes. Business chequing statements convert with cheque numbers, EFT descriptions, and the separate debit and credit columns preserved. If you use SmartBanking for Business, note that Intuit says credit card transactions are not in the feed, so the card statement PDF is the way to get those into QuickBooks.
Can I import CIBC statements into QuickBooks?
Yes. Export as QBO and upload it in QuickBooks Online under Banking, then Upload transactions, or in QuickBooks Desktop through Web Connect import. CapyParse fills in the financial institution details QuickBooks checks, so the file imports without the "unable to verify financial institution" error.
Is it safe to upload my CIBC statement?
All uploads are encrypted in transit via HTTPS. When you sign up, your documents are stored securely in your account, only you can access them, and you can delete any document from your dashboard at any time.
